The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has headquarters in Trondheim and campuses in Gjøvik and Ålesund, with 43 000 students and 8000 members of staff. The Department of Teacher Education (ILU) provides research-based education relevant to the profession. The department educate students in the competences needed for primary and secondary education (grades 1 – 13). Through the study programs we offer, students gain high levels of skill in educational theory and practice, subjects and subject didactics, and develop the ability to think critically, act ethically and exercise professional judgement in their work. The Department of Teacher Education increases knowledge about the hallmarks of quality in schools and in education. Our research is based on the principle of academic freedom and takes place in strong academic communities with a clear profile in their disciplines. Academic leader of the University School Partnership
The University School Partnership is a strategic collaboration between NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), the entire teacher education program, Trondheim Municipality, and Trøndelag County Council, together with five partner schools: two primary schools, two lower secondary schools, and one upper secondary school.
The aim of the partnership is to improve schools and teacher education through close, long-term collaboration. This includes strengthening teacher education, enhancing research and development in university schools, advancing educational research,
and sharing results with regional schools and teacher education institutions.
The partnership is characterized by co-created R&D activities between teachers and researchers, an organizational focus on development and collaboration, annual recruitment of PhD candidates, and joint positions between NTNU and school owners. A strong commitment to knowledge dissemination ensures that research and insights are shared widely to support educational development across the region. Through this collaboration, the University School Partnership contributes to high-quality teacher education and innovative practices in schools, fostering a culture of research-based development that benefits both students and educators.
