The Private University College of Teacher Education of Christian Churches Austria (KPH Vienna/Lower Austria) is Austria’s largest private university college of teacher education with seven locations in Vienna and Lower Austria. As part of the tertiary sector of the Austrian education system, it is responsible for the implementation of the new teacher education curriculum on the basis of the requirements of the ministry of education.
The KPH Vienna/Lower Austria currently has approx. 2,500 students in initial education and approx. 1,000 students in continuing education courses. The courses offered in initial, continuing and further education are designed to provide students and educators with the best possible qualifications and professionalization in the respective (religious) pedagogical professional fields in the best possible way. They include Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses for primary school teachers and the Bachelor’s degree course in elementary education. As part of the North-East Development Network, the Private University College cooperates with the University College of Teacher Education Vienna, the University College of Teacher Education Lower Austria, the University of Vienna and the University College of Agricultural and Environmental Pedagogy in the secondary general education teacher training program. In addition, the KPH Vienna/Lower Austria offers a comprehensive further education and training program for all teachers in the Austrian education sector as well as advice and support for school development processes in Vienna and Lower Austria.

Three Praxisschulen (“practice schools”) are part of the Private University College of Teacher Education of Christian Churches Austria: a primary and a secondary school in Vienna, one primary school in Krems. They serve as learning locations for the pedagogical-practical studies of the teacher training courses. The primary schools are for children from 6-10 years, the secondary school, which offers standard and gymnasium level, is for pupils from 10-14. All practice schools are Catholic private schools with public rights. They pursue various focal points (promotion of giftedness, digital education, entrepreneurship education, concept of New Authority, education inline of the SDGs/sustainable development goals). In addition to the three practice schools, there is a network of schools in Vienna and Lower Austria where teacher students can also complete their practical teacher training.
